How to use
Duration of treatments 30 – 60 minutes.
(Skin resurfacing treatments are applied professionally every 10 to 21 days or as prescribed by your pHformula skin specialist.

M.E.L.A. RESURFACING TREATMENT
The unique pHformula PowerclayTM formula used in the M.E.L.A. resurfacing treatments is a powerful hyperpigmentation treatment designed to reduce the accumulation of epidermally located melanin. It effectively inhibits the enzymatic activity of tyrosinase, whilst stimulating epidermal differentiation and therefore accelerates epidermal cellular turnover causing the removal of already formed melanin pigment. Due to the innovative and highly effective mode of action, significant visible results are obtained with minimal risk.
1. CLEANSE
E.X.F.O. cleanse – Cleanse the area of treatment thoroughly and remove with dampened cotton or gauze pads. Pat dry.
2. DEGREASE
S.K.I.N. primer – Spray S.K.I.N. primer on cotton or gauze pad and wipe over entire area to be treated. Repeat in areas with excess oil secretion.
3. SKIN PERMEABILITY
S.P. complex – Apply a thin layer with a fan brush. Leave for 2 minutes and remove with dampened cotton pads. The skin permeability complex prepares the skin by opening the channels for better penetration and helps to assess skin sensitivity on a scale of 1 – 10. On application of the S.P. complex there will be a mild stinging sensation. Make a note of the skin response after 2 minutes.
4. OCCLUSIVE
With a cotton tip lightly apply an occlusive around the outline of the eyes (top and bottom eyebrow line). Apply to all permanent make-up areas to protect the colour pigment.
5. RESURFACE
M.E.L.A. 1, 2, 3 powerclaysTM – Apply in thin layers evenly spread out using a firm mask brush or a small spatula.
M.E.L.A. 1 and 2 powerclaysTM – Apply a second even layer after 5 minutes. M.E.L.A. 3 powerclayTM – Apply a second layer after 15 minutes.
WARNING: This PowerclayTM has to be thoroughly removed after indicated time.
6. REMOVAL OF POWERCLAYTM
Gently cleanse the skin with the E.X.F.O. cleanse to remove all traces of the PowerclayTM and pat dry.
7. CALM & HYDRATE
P.O.S.T. recovery cream – To calm and hydrate the skin apply the P.O.S.T. recovery cream and massage gently into skin for extra hydration.
8. PROTECT
U.V. protect SPF 30+ – Complete the treatment by applying the broad spectrum sun protection factor.

– The use of the pHformula U.V. protect SPF 30+ or U.V. protect SPF 50+ are essential to protect the skin from UV radiation.
– pHformula skin resurfacing solutions are well tolerated by most people.
– They are designed to deliver optimal results while minimising downtime.
– The following reactions are within the normal range: redness, stinging or burning, tightness, light frosting (minor coagulation of stratum corneum proteins), flaking or mild shedding, peeling, temporary dryness.
– Cases of adverse skin irritations are usually the result of “too much too fast”. In cases of severe skin irritation, decrease the time or decrease the number of layers applied in the follow-up treatments.
– Best results are always seen after the second M.E.L.A powerclayTM treatment. The depth of the pigmentation and the skin tolerance levels of the patient determine the total number of treatments needed.
– Maximum time recommended for PowerclayTM applications:
+ M.E.L.A. 1 powerclayTM: 5 – 30 minutes (remove).
+ M.E.L.A. 2 powerclayTM: 5 – 45 minutes (remove).
+ M.E.L.A. 3 powerclayTM: 5 – 60 minutes (remove).
– Apply an occlusive in a thin layer to protect the sensitive areas prior to the powerclay.
– Apply one thin layer of PowerclayTM for not more than 3 minutes on sensitive areas.
– Cold sores: Avoid area completely.
– Extending the time of application of the PowerclayTM will influence the strength of the treatment and the depth of skin penetration.
– Start by applying the PowerclayTM to problem areas first and follow with a second layer covering the complete treatment area.
– Never combine the pHformula solutions and PowerclayTM in one treatment application. For best results, alternate different treatments within the recommended time frame.
– Avoid prolonged sun exposure, even when using a sunscreen product, especially in the 10 days prior the treatment.
